Eco Jet System Leaves Smaller Carbon Footprint

The 800-HPR Series 3 truck jet with the Eco Jet System from Sewer Equipment Co. of America has a fully baffled 1,500-gallon water tank, uses non-toxic earth-friendly hydraulic fluid, and uses a reduced engine speed for more efficient operation.

“When you put your hose down in the line and run the jetter at the highest throttle you need, it’s running at a 33 percent lower speed than on our previous models,” says Brandon Shelton, marketing and regional sales manager. “You’re not using as much fuel, and it’s quieter.”

The truck’s hydraulic fluid is completely biodegradable and all natural, making it easier on the environment in the case of a spill. A key component of the jet truck is the extendable and retractable hose reel on the rear, housed in an enclosed compartment with aluminum rollup doors and 80,000 Btu heater.

“Where this really becomes a benefit is for cities in northern climates,” Shelton says. “They can do jetting in all weather conditions – even if it’s 10 below zero. You can go out and be confident that your truck is not going to freeze up when you have to open up a sewer line.”

Other features include a lower operator control station for easier access, workstation PTO activation, and rear-mounted digital display monitor that shows parameters including engine rpm, oil pressure, temperature and system voltage.

The truck, which measures about 84 to 96 inches from cab to axle, can be backed up to most manholes. Where a manhole is off the road or otherwise difficult to access, a tethered or wireless remote is available. The wireless remote provides 700 feet of range.

“You can actually walk up to the next manhole and see when the nozzle is coming through that pipe, if you need to,” Shelton says. “The most important thing is it gives you the ability to work from the manhole, making it a safer operation.” The remote also has an automatic kill feature.

The jet truck typically comes with a 60 to 80 gpm pump and offers from 2,000 to 2,500 psi, although larger or smaller pumps can be used. “We’ve done these with 40 gpm pumps, we’ve done them with 18 gpm pumps,” Shelton says. “We’ve actually done dual 80 gpm pumps to give you 160 gallons of water out the back. There’s a lot we can do on this platform.”

Using a 1-inch hose with 80 gpm pump equipped with the proper nozzle, the truck, built on a 33,000 GVW chassis, can clean up to a 60-inch line. “We’ve been building the 800 Series truck for the last 20 years now, and about 90 percent of them are in cities,” Shelton says. 800/323-1604; www.sewerequipment.com.
