It’s hard to believe the summer is behind us and our children are already heading back to school. But school isn’t just for kids. This is also a great time for you to refresh your industry knowledge and keep up to date on the latest in trenchless technologies.

In addition to the resources, webcasts and FAQs available at nassco.org, COLE Publishing has begun a regular series of online Pipeline Assessment Certification Program quizzes that can be found at cleaner.com. Designed to test your knowledge, the quizzes cover the proper assessment and coding of defects, including structural, operation and maintenance, construction, and other miscellaneous features, giving you regular refreshers on best practices in PACP standards.

Fall is also the time to gear up for industry conferences, which offer many opportunities for education and advancement of knowledge. For example, NASSCO’s Annual Conference, scheduled for Feb. 13-16, in Naples, Florida, includes an intensive Technical Day to cover the latest trends and advances in trenchless technologies. The tentative 2017 schedule will include two separate tracks.

Track A – Inspection, Asset Management and Training

  • Lateral Inspections: Push Cameras vs. Lateral Launch (Kyle Dehne, Jack Doheny Companies)
  • Phased Assessment Strategy for Sewers (PASS): Understanding Sewer Conditions Quicker with Fewer Resources (Steve Sebastian, Envirosight)
  • Acoustic Inspection Implementation at New Castle County, Delaware (George Selembo, InfoSense)
  • Small Utility Asset Management (Jim Harris, Jacobs Engineering)
  • Importance of Training, Why Train/Why Now (Jack Weimer, Jack Doheny Companies)
  • Others to be announced

Track B – Rehabilitation

  • Design Considerations and Benefits of Pipe Bursting (George Mallakis, IPBA & TT Technologies Inc.)
  • Holistic Trenchless Sewer Rehabilitation Project in Utah (Jeff Maier, C&L Water Solutions Inc.)
  • Sealing from the Ends: The Internal Pipe End Seal (Lee Haessig and Peter Blais, P.d., Cretex Specialty Products)
  • Critical Details for Municipal Grouting Long-Term Success (Don Rigby, Avanti International; John Nelson, Visu-Sewer Inc.; Marc Anctil, Logiball Inc.)
  • Others to be announced

Soon after NASSCO’s Annual Conference we will be heading to Indiana for WWETT 2017. Lynn Osborn, NASSCO’s technical director, will moderate NASSCO Education Day on Wednesday, Feb. 22, with topics that cover UV-cured lining, pipe bursting, an overview of lateral and main/lateral connection investigations and rehabilitation technologies, as well as a discussion on maximizing ROI with grout, acoustic inspections, and combating I&I with better infrastructure intelligence.

Education is important to NASSCO because it is a driving force behind our mission to set standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure and to ensure the continued acceptance and growth of trenchless technologies. We invite you to learn more at nassco.org.
