Stormwater + Get AlertsThe New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is sharing a new report with the public that looks at various stormwater management programs, both nationally and internationally.
The Water Research Foundation is publishing and distributing the report, “Innovative and Integrated Stormwater Management,” on the department’s behalf.
DEP commissioned the report with the goal of learning from other communities with advanced stormwater management programs.
The report is the result of data sharing between New York City and 34 communities, and contains case studies capturing challenges and lessons learned with MS4 and consent decree compliance, flood reduction programs, and other integrated stormwater management initiatives.
DEP is currently working to comply with a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System (MS4) Permit recently issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
According to DEP, the hope is that other service providers can use the report to cost-effectively improve the quality of their surrounding water bodies and deliver other benefits to their communities.
