It’s October, and that means it’s time for the baseball post season, the World Series, and tree root problems. Actually, tree roots have been growing all through the dry summer, trying to find a source of water. They find their way into cracked sewer lines and loose pipe fittings. You just won’t know about it until the rains come in the fall. Then it’s your problem.

How you manage this situation determines if it’s a big problem or a small problem. Do you have the right tool for the job? Chemicals that claim to destroy roots don’t work. You may have a few drain cleaning machines on your truck, but do you have the right one?

You’ll want a major league machine with a heavy-duty Flexicore cable — 5/8- or 3/4-inch diameter — that has the muscle to cut roots quickly without damaging the cable. A steel drum mounted on a reinforced frame is the best way to contain this power hitting cable. With a slugger this size, you’ll want big wheels, stair climbers, and a truck loading wheel to make it easier to move the machine to and from the job. This may sound like an expensive prospect, but keep in mind it will pay for itself in just four uses.

So, get a root-cutting machine and hit a home run every time. Then, slide into the easy chair, kick back and enjoy your favorite sluggers on TV.
