The Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association will sponsor a 10-week program entitled “Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance and Review for C & D Water Operator Exam” in Westmont, Ill., from Aug. 30 to Nov. 1. The course is open to association members and nonmembers.

Michael Ramsey, Public Works supervisor of the Village of Westmont, will instruct the class. The program will focus on the roles and duties of water distribution operators with an emphasis on safe practices and procedures in the operation and maintenance of drinking water supply systems and treatment plants. It will also cover storage facilities, water quality considerations, disinfection and safety.

Classes will be conducted each Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Village of Westmont Public Works. Operators of water supply systems are required to be licensed by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and completion of this course will qualify individuals for a reduction in the number of operator experience hours required by the IEPA before licensing is awarded.
