Update: The Associated Press reports that actor Tom Selleck will pay Calleguas Municipal Water District more than $21,000 to settle the lawsuit brought on by the agency after its board voted 3-0 in a closed session July 15 to accept the terms of the settlement. "We believe those we represent fully expect we should take action to protect and preserve our water supplies," said acting board president Thomas Slossen. "And we did."

Calleguas Municipal Water District, the water district suing crime show star Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I. and Blue Bloods), announced July 9 that it had reached a tentative settlement with the actor, according to multiple reports.

Selleck, who has an avocado farm, made national headlines last week after he was accused of allegedly stealing tanker-loads of water from a public hydrant to use on his 60-acre ranch in Westlake Village, California.

According to the complaint, a truck was spotted multiple times filling up at the same fire hydrant, then delivering the water to Selleck’s ranch. The first observance of this act was September 2013. Although the water deliveries were made to Selleck’s ranch, the actor himself didn’t do the driving.

However, ABC News reports that Jay Spurgin, the public works director for Thousand Oaks, said a construction company paid a fee to secure the rights to draw water from the city hydrant two years ago. It was unclear if Selleck or his employees bought the water from the company or another source.

Calleguas’ resources manager Eric Bergh says settlement details are confidential pending approval by the water district’s board, which met July 15.
