In San Bernardino, California, a woman who fell 15-20 feet into a manhole was rescued alive after being trapped overnight.

Firefighters used a high-point rope rescue system to safely retrieve her, and she was transported to a trauma center with moderate injuries.

Environmental Groups Petition EPA to Monitor Microplastics in Drinking Water

Over 170 environmental groups have petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to monitor microplastics in drinking water under the Safe Drinking Water Act starting in 2026.

Advocates argue that increased awareness of microplastic pollution and its health risks demands urgent federal action. The EPA is required by law to initiate monitoring for emerging contaminants every five years. The proposed list of emerging contaminants will be assembled in 2025, while the final contaminants list will be published in 2026.

Feds Announce $849 Million to Revitalize Aging Water Infrastructure in West

The Department of the Interior recently announced a $849 million investment from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to revitalize aging water delivery systems across the West.

The funding supports 77 projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah and Washington to improve water conveyance and storage, increase safety, improve hydropower generation and provide water treatment. This includes 14 projects totaling $118.3 million in the Colorado River Basin.
