ASSOCIATION NEWS

  • The city of Renton Public Works Department received top honors in two categories from the American Public Works Association Washington Chapter. The city’s Monroe Avenue stormwater infiltration facility, the largest in western Washington, was named the Project of the Year in the categories of environment (projects from $5 million to $25 million) and sustainability.
  • The city of Hiawatha received a $395,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship to build a stormwater pond at Fay M. Clark Memorial Park. The grant is part of the Iowa Water Quality Initiative.
  • The town of Stratford received a $668,000 grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The funds will go toward green stormwater infrastructure and construction as part of the Stratford Arboretum project.
  • The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments received a $200,000 grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The funds will go toward the Naugatuck River Stormwater Retrofit Assessment project.
  • Oakland County (Michigan) received $1.2 million in federal funding to improve stormwater management in areas that are routinely flooded after high rainfall events, it was announced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • The DuPage County Stormwater Management Committee (Illinois) announced the winners of its 2026 Sustainable Design Challenge. Top honors went to:
    • Best Overall Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design: Waubonsie Valley High School (Aviya Pinto, Varshaa Selvaraj and Symphony Taylor)
    • Best Stormwater Design: York Community School (Allyson Kent and Siha Kim)
    • Best Energy Design Award: Glenbard East High School (Lily Daciolas, Yunuen Rangel and Olivia Wojdyla)
