The North American Society for Trenchless Technology invites industry professionals to register for its virtual course “HDD: Calculations & Advanced Design Good Practices” scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
This five-hour focus on HDD design course is based on advanced modules from the recently released 5th Edition of NASTT’s HDD Good Practices Guidelines and is tailored for professionals with a foundational understanding of horizontal directional drilling construction.
The session will focus on advanced design considerations for HDD projects, including a detailed look at geotechnical conditions, ground-related risks and contract document considerations. Instructors Mary Neher and Matthew Wallin of Bennett Trenchless Engineers will lead an in-depth discussion on necessary calculations to assess and mitigate risks when designing HDD crossing geometries. These calculations, often required for permits from stakeholders like departments of transportation and environmental agencies, include hydrofracture risk analysis; pullback and pipe stress calculations for various pipe materials; and settlement risk evaluations.
The cost is a discounted member rate of $250 and a non-member rate of $300. The fee includes course attendance, handouts, a digital training manual sent prior to the course, and a Continuing Education Unit certificate issued by Louisiana Tech University.
