When I was appointed executive director of NASSCO this past April, one of the first things I did was set three main goals for 2018.
The first is to return focus to the contractor community so that municipalities, engineers, and manufacturers of assessment, maintenance, and rehabilitation equipment and supplies can all benefit from quality work. The second goal is to partner with other like-minded associations and organizations to unify our efforts and magnify our collective voice in building awareness for the need to address our aging underground infrastructure. Thirdly, this year I intend to improve communication with members to learn more about new technologies and listen to their unique opinions and perspectives so that our mission to set industry standards for the assessment, maintenance, and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure may be strengthened and we may serve the industry at a higher level.
One of the ways we plan to achieve this third goal is through the development of a new event called “NASSCO Round-Ups.” Together with Tim Vivian, the president of NASSCO’s board of directors, I will visit communities across the country to meet with NASSCO members and other professionals aligned to our industry. Our goal? To hear more about what is happening regionally so that we may better understand unique geographic challenges and opportunities to gain insight regarding how NASSCO can evolve to meet the growing needs of the industry.
The roundtable discussion format also provides the opportunity for NASSCO to share information and updates pertaining to a variety of topics including federal funding of infrastructure, updates to the Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program and Inspector Training and Certification Program, international expansion of NASSCO, new resources available to the industry, and so much more. The bottom line is that we want to open clear lines of communication, in an informal and personal way, by gathering as small groups for meaningful discussions with actionable results.
If you are interested in hosting a NASSCO Round-Up, or participating in one, please contact Heather Myers at heather@nassco.org.
