The Connecticut Department of Public Health recently honored all those dedicated to providing clean drinking water to their communities at a special event May 1 at the State Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The news conference was a celebration for National Drinking Water Week (May 5-10) and  recognized the accomplishments of state and local public water system professionals across the state. The American Water Works Association and the communities it serves have celebrated Drinking Water Week for over 40 years, recognizing the vital role water plays in the daily lives of all people.

This year’s observance coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, which set quality standards for the nation’s drinking water and established a regulatory framework to safeguard public health and safety.

Representatives from numerous Connecticut water utilities discussed current projects and accomplishments to improve and protect water quality as a result of funding from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
