The Senate is expected to take up the bipartisan Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act — a bill that aims to address extreme storms, improve U.S. ports and support ecosystem restoration — after it passed in the House 399-18.

National Utility Contractors Association CEO Doug Carlson commented on the House passage. “This bipartisan bill will deliver water infrastructure resources to many critical projects around the nation. In a time where fiscal austerity is being discussed, it is important for both House and Senate lawmakers remember that thousands of American communities depend on federal resources that NUCA members use to build modern subsurface infrastructure systems that deliver clean water and sewer services to tens of millions of Americans.”

University Partners With Army to Research Mobile Water Treatment

Wayne State University and the U.S. Army are partnering to research mobile water treatment solutions for disaster-impacted areas and military deployments.

The collaboration focuses on detecting harmful bacteria and chemicals in water, benefiting both civilian and military needs while providing students with access to advanced technologies and hands-on experience.

USDA to Invest $642 Million for Water Projects in 41 States

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced that USDA is investing $6.3 billion in rural and Tribal communities to expand access to a clean and reliable electric grid, provide safe drinking water and create good-paying jobs.

The investment includes nearly $642 million to expand access to clean and reliable drinking water, sanitary waste disposal and stormwater drainage for people in 41 states. The department is making the investments through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program and the Solid Waste Management Grants program.
