- The city of Lawton (Oklahoma) City Council recognized the Stormwater Maintenance Division with Employee Spotlight Awards for its work on replacing damaged bridge safety railings across the city following flooding events. The crew was honored for their quality work and for doing it outside their normal duties. Employees recognized included Julio Hernandez, Jesus Bonales-Martinex, Joseph “Joe” Arraya and Gerardo “Jerry” Valladolid.
- Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, the state’s central hub for financing infrastructure improvements for municipalities, businesses and homeowners, awarded a total of $1,095,800 in grants to the communities of Bristol, Coventry, East Greenwich, Hopkinton, Jamestown, Middletown, New Shoreham, Pawtucket, Providence and West Warwick for the design and engineering of systems to mitigate stormwater issues caused by increased flooding events. The grant funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Overflow Sewer Grant program.
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency is awarding $2.09 million to Bryan County (Georgia) and $1.95 million to the city of Pooler (Georgia) to develop comprehensive stormwater master plans, including full funding for related management costs. FEMA says the plans will help local leaders assess flood risks, identify infrastructure needs and create long-term stormwater strategies as the region grows.
Berks Nature (Georgia) received a $13,860 grant from the Innovation Fund of Berks County Community Foundation for a municipal outreach initiative supporting open space protection, native plant communities and stormwater best management practices.
