DC Water is set to launch a month-long drone survey of the 54-mile Potomac Interceptor this week, marking the first time advanced aerial technology will map the pipeline. Using specialized Lidar scanners, the drones will fly up to 350 feet high to create highly detailed 3D models of the terrain along the route.This unprecedented aerial inspection is a direct response to January's catastrophic pipe collapse, where old construction boulders caused a massive sewage overflow.
