Ditch Witch manufacturer acquires HammerHead Trenchless

Strategic partnership unites two companies with strong heritage in trenchless technology

The Charles Machine Works, Inc., manufacturer of Ditch Witch underground construction equipment, has acquired 100 percent ownership of HammerHead Trenchless Equipment, manufactured by Earth Tool Company, LLC. The acquisition makes Earth Tool a wholly owned subsidiary of Charles Machine Works. Hammerhead designs and manufactures piercing tools, pipe bursting systems, pneumatic hammers and horizontal directional drill tooling.

Tiffany Sewell-Howard, CEO of Charles Machine Works, said the decision to make the acquisition was based on a long-term strategic commitment to grow its core business. "We plan to fully leverage HammerHead's products and expertise to strengthen our position in the water and sewer rehabilitation markets globally," Sewell-Howard stated.

Leaders of both organizations expressed excitement and confidence that the acquisition will ensure long-term sustainability and market leadership. "Both companies have spent years developing customer confidence in our brands," says Brian Metcalf, CEO of Earth Tool. "Joining together reaffirms a commitment customers can depend on."

The Charles Machine Works supplies trenchers, vibratory plows, pneumatic piercing tools, backhoes, electronic tracking and locating tools, horizontal directional drilling systems, drill pipe, downhole tools, vacuum excavation systems, excavator-tool carriers, mini skid steers and the Zahn family of power utility equipment.

HammerHead Trenchless Equipment includes piercing, bursting and ramming products used by contractors to install or replace fiber, communication, water, sewer and gas lines with minimal disruption to above ground landscapes, structures and traffic flow.
