WEFTEC includes collection system seminars

Workshops and hot-topic sessions address key concerns for infrastructure managers

WEFTEC 2010, the Water Environment Federation’s annual trade show and conference, includes several seminars in its technical program dealing with collection system issues. The conference runs Oct. 2-6 in New Orleans.

One seminar, “Private Service Laterals: What to Do, When, Why, How and With What?”

will provide up-to-date information on addressing sewer backups and backflows into buildings. Speakers will share success stories, and attendees will learn about effective programs across North America related to sewer lateral repair and replacement and operations and maintenance issues. The program will be held Sunday, Oct. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A hot-topic session, “Collection System Odors: Dealing With the Underground Menace,”

will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. This session, featuring top-rated papers, covers the need for sewer rehabilitation and the control of hydrogen sulfide and the corrosion it can cause.
