Taking proper care of water tanks

AWWA offers a webcast on Sustainable Water Storage Tank Operation and Maintenance

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) will host a Sustainable Water Storage Tank Operation & Maintenance webcast on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Part one of a two-part series, the webcast will provide insights that water industry professionals can use to enhance the quality of their operations and the end product.

Basic water quality within the distribution system can succeed or fail based on the condition and operation of a water storage tank. The webcast will cover the components of an effective water tank condition assessment and how to develop a comprehensive, sustainable asset management program as a viable alternative to the traditional tank maintenance procurement methods.

The webcast first aired in 2009, and new information and best practices have been developed to enhance the content. Webcast presenters include:

* Randy Moore, vice president of specialty products and technical services with Utility Service Company.

Mark Johnson, PE, director of metropolitan water operations and maintenance with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.
