AWWA offers Practical Asset Management webcast

Program on Oct. 13 offers functional methods to help utilities administer physical assets

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) will host a Practical Asset Management webcast. As water utilities face the daunting task of managing operations, maintenance, replacement, and repairs for physical assets, an organized approach can yield significant savings and extend the life of valuable facilities.

The webcast will illustrate effective asset management procedures using the example of fire hydrants, one of the most common distribution system components. It will also include strategies to increase valve operability and reliability. A systematic process to manage equipment maintenance and replacement will also be outlined. Presenters include:

* Kenneth Morgan, water distribution superintendent, City of Phoenix, Ariz.

* Eric Ayers, manager of distribution operations and maintenance, Louisville (Ky.) Water Company.

* Paul Schumi, business development manager, Wachs Water Services, Buffalo Grove, Ill.
