AWWA webcast focuses on water sustainabilty

Participants will learn to create a sustainable program within existing water utility practices

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the American Water Works Association will host a Sustainability and Drinking Water webcast, focusing on how to incorporate the key elements of a sustainable program into existing water utility business and operational practices.

As legislators, regulatory agencies and the public become more aware of how business decisions affect the environment, the issue of sustainability has become increasingly important. The webcast will provide an introductory discussion of sustainability and how it is defined for the drinking water sector. Case studies will be offered by utilities that have successfully implemented sustainability plans. Available applications and resources will also be discussed. Presenters include:

* Cynthia Lane, regulatory specialist, AWWA

* Cheryl Welch, strategic planning coordinator, Tualatin Valley Water District

* Dr. Mark LeChevallier, director, innovation and environmental stewardship, American Water
