A Norwegian study has found that foodborne pathogens can attach to microplastics, survive wastewater treatment and could pose health risks when treated water is reused.

Researchers observed that these pathogens form biofilms, called plastispheres, on microplastics, making them more resilient and potentially dangerous when used for drinking or irrigation.
