In an industry where decades of service are the measure of infrastructure quality, William "Bill" Teague's career has rivaled even the best pipelines. Valley Sanitary District of Indio, California, recently celebrated Teague's retirement by recognizing his 67 years of dedicated service to the Coachella Valley.
Teague began his journey with the district in 1951 as a plant operator and quickly rose through the ranks. By 1956, he was appointed general manager, a role he held for nearly three decades until stepping down in 1985. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping VSD’s growth and success, establishing it as a trusted leader in wastewater management for Indio and surrounding communities.
Even after retiring as general manager, Teague has continued to serve the community as a member of Valley Sanitary District’s board of directors for over 30 years, including nearly 20 years as board president. His influence also extended beyond VSD, with leadership roles in organizations such as the California Association of Sanitation Agencies, the Indio Chamber of Commerce and the Coachella Valley Boys Club.
“Bill’s leadership, vision and dedication to public health and environmental stewardship have set a high standard for all of us,” says Jason Dafforn, VSD general manager. “His legacy will continue to inspire as VSD approaches its 100th anniversary in 2025.”
