A recent study has shown that alligators in Florida are utilizing sewer systems to travel between areas. Researchers monitored stormwater sewers in Gainesville using motion-activated cameras. The study revealed a surprising abundance of wildlife, particularly alligators, using the drainpipes for safe passage.
While alligators in sewers isn't a new phenomenon, this research marks the first comprehensive look at the extent of this behavior. The study, published in Urban Naturalist, encountered challenges, including some cameras being damaged or stolen by animals like raccoons.

The project represents a collaborative effort between CCUA, the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Carollo Engineers.
Jessica Kramer Nominated to Lead Office of Water
Jessica Kramer has been nominated to lead the EPA's Office of Water, succeeding Radhika Fox.
