The World Health Organization has released an updated addendum to its global drinking-water quality guidelines, aiming to help countries close a safety gap that still leaves 2.1 billion people worldwide without safely managed water. The newly published update provides an authoritative framework to strengthen national health-based regulations, emphasizing proactive risk management, comprehensive water safety planning and independent surveillance.

Reflecting the latest scientific evidence and practical implementation lessons, the guidelines offer reinforced directives on managing small municipal water supplies, chemical hazards like vector-control pesticides, and significant microbial risks, including emerging viruses and waterborne pathogen transmission in healthcare facilities.

Nvidia Tackles Data Center Water Consumption

As data centers strain local water supplies, Nvidia has unveiled a new liquid-cooling infrastructure for its AI servers designed to curb resource depletion. Replacing traditional, water-dependent air-cooling fans, this closed-loop system continuously circulates a mixture of water and propylene glycol.

Notably, the coolant can safely operate at temperatures up to 113 degrees F, which is significantly warmer than the industry standard. According to a computer science professor at the University of Chicago, this higher temperature threshold allows facilities to vent heat directly outdoors, drastically reducing the need for energy-intensive air conditioning and fresh water intake.
