The square and rectangular Pro-Ring grade adjustment system from Cretex Specialty Products is designed to stop storm basin and curb inlet deterioration. Patterned after the company’s circular Pro-Ring manhole grade adjustment system, the square and rectangular system is a lightweight alternative to typical concrete and mortar methods.

The grade adjustment system is manufactured from expanded polypropylene (EPP), which has an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and meets AASHTO HS-20 and HS-25 loading requirements. With a 50-year projected design life, the system is corrosion resistant and available in both square (34- by 34-inch outer and 24- by 24-inch inner) and rectangular (36- by 46-inch outer and 24- by 36-inch inner) profiles. Both the square and rectangular profiles are available in a variety of heights, including 0.75-, 1-, 1.25-, 1.5-, 2-, 3- and 4-inch. They also come in sloped versions.

“It’s made out of the same material as the bumper component hidden behind the fascia on a modern automobile,” says Lee Haessig, general manager for Cretex Specialty Products. “It’s energy absorbing and acts as a shock absorber.”

Weighing from 3 to 12 pounds, the EPP system is approximately 1/20th the weight of comparable concrete systems, enabling one individual to install or repair a square or rectangular basin using construction adhesive. The grade system also can be layered for precise adjustment.

“It saves on labor costs,” Haessig says. “Setting the iron casting in place is the only thing that will take extra help.” 800/345-3764; www.cretexseals.com.
