Every July, when NASSCO’s new fiscal year begins, committee members present ideas for goals to help set industry standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure and to assure the continued acceptance and growth of trenchless technology.
Upon approval by NASSCO’s board of directors, the committees get to work on the various goals to ensure that NASSCO remains the source for industry education, technical resources and advocacy. All of the 2025-2026 goals can be found on NASSCO’s website; below are just a few:
- Government Relations (U.S. and Canada): In addition to promoting NASSCO’S PACP as an industry standard, the committees will conduct in-person and virtual fly-ins to encourage funding of aging underground infrastructure.
- Health and Safety: The committee will continue to produce safety podcasts; review protocol for confined-space entry; provide guidance on trenching and shoring safety; and collaborate on the development of a specification guideline for plug safety.
- Infrastructure Condition Assessment: Activities include developing a specification guideline for best practices when using ADR for pipeline inspections, reviewing current MACP process, and enhancements and updates to NASSCO’s PACP application and use.
- Infiltration Control Grouting: The focus this year will be on setting standards for proper use and application of grout, including a new specification for manhole grouting, and a thorough review and update of existing specification guidelines.
- International Business: As demand for PACP grows within our territories, so does the need for resources to support standards. This year the committee will prepare and present webinars, explore a NASSCO Exchange in Puerto Rico and translate a variety of educational and technical resources into French, Spanish and Portuguese.
- Lateral and Building Pipe: Upon the successful launch of NASSCO’s Building Sewer and Drain Inspection Program, this committee is now focusing on helping system owners develop lateral inspection programs of their own, as well as partnering with other industry organizations on the development of publications and training.
- Leadership: This unique committee provides an open and vulnerable forum that offers NASSCO members the opportunity to share ideas, help find solutions and elevate the leadership culture in the underground infrastructure industry.
- Operations and Maintenance: Focusing on course development, the O&M Committee will finalize a NASSCO Drain Cleaning Certification Program, begin work on a new Mainline Cleaning Certification Program, and collaborate with other committees to develop a variety of specification guidelines.
- Pipe Rehabilitation: Specific trenchless technologies including sliplining, pipe bursting and fold & form will be supported through the development of specification guidelines, technical videos, and updates on NASSCO’s website.
- Pressure Pipe: Two important technical videos will be completed — one on the topic of pressure pipe assessment, and the other on pressure pipe rehabilitation. The committee will also update the Pressure Pipe Rehabilitation Matrix and finalize specifications on inserted hose liner.
- Sewer Structure Rehabilitation: A new “Sewer Structures Explained” video will be developed, along with a document highlighting considerations in sewer structure preparation and rehabilitation for junction boxes, wet wells, syphon chambers, etc.
- Software: With NASSCO’s PACP Version 9 within its sites, this committee will explore multisensor data and GIS as considerations for the next version; research all video file formats to identify unmanaged media; and investigate and report open-source API validation.
- Young Professionals: This committee brings together young professionals to collaborate on ways to attract young talent to the underground industry and to become more involved in NASSCO, and to share experiences as young professionals in the trenchless industry.
