Online voting is now open in the Tank of the Year contest sponsored by Tnemec Company. This is the 10th year that Tnemec has recognized the aesthetic, creative and innovative uses of its coatings on water storage tanks.

Local government members, water project participants, fabricators, engineers, applicators and private citizens can visit the polling website at www.tankoftheyear.com and cast a ballot for their favorite tank. This format gives both small town and metropolitan tanks a chance to win and allows participants the opportunity to campaign for their hometown water tower.

Voting will be open for a two week period, from Oct. 5-16. During this time, voters can go to the website, pick their favorite tank, and then track and share the results. Only one vote is allowed per person, but voters will be able to see the front-runners, at any time, when they revisit the site. There are over 200 water tanks entered in this year's contest.

Once the ballots have been closed, the 12 tanks with the highest number of votes will each be assigned a featured month in Tnemec’s 2016 water tank calendar. From those top 12 tanks, the official winner of Tank of the Year will be selected by Tnemec and placed in the January page of the calendar. And this year, aside from the official Tank of the Year winner, the tank with the most overall votes will be announced as the “People’s Choice.”

“This year, we’ve added a new wrinkle to the competition,” says Doug Hansen, director of sales, Tnemec Water Tank Market. “For the first time, top-voted tanks from two new categories will be recognized — classic and contemporary. Tanks with solid colors and block letters fall under the classic designation, while projects featuring varied color schemes, creative logos and designs are classified as contemporary.”

Last year’s Tank of the Year winner, a 2-million-gallon composite elevated tank in Midland, Texas, falls into the contemporary category. The tank’s logo features a representation of the Midland skyline with an oil rig for an “L,” and a wind turbine in the background. The image leads perfectly into the city tagline, “Feel the Energy,” written in cursive below it.

All votes for this year’s contest must be in by Oct. 16. After this time has passed, Tnemec will notify the public of the 12 semi-finalists and choose the official Tank of the Year. The winner will be announced in early November on Tnemec.com and calendars will be made available by December.
