In 2013, winter came a little early for the Madison (Wisconsin) Water Utility. It turned out to be a season the city’s utility crews would never forget, and as winter settles in for 2018, the utility is looking back to learn from past mistakes.
On Dec. 6, 2013, overnight temperatures in the city had dipped into the single digits. Three days later, they dropped below zero. By the end of the month, the city had spent 10 nights below zero and had 22 inches of snow.
But it wasn’t a big deal. They’re in Wisconsin after all.
