Using a 2- to 3-inch hose for hydroexcavation is ideal for precision applications where a larger, less-accurate hose could cause damage. These smaller hoses are typically used in conjunction with a powerful vacuum system to perform controlled, surgical digging, especially in confined or sensitive areas.
To repair and custom build these specialized hose sizes, Koul Tools recently released the EZ-ON Hose Press Model 223. It features a robust lead screw system with a 6-1 gear reduction drive and a newly designed fitting holder. The 223 model is operated by a battery-powered impact gun, facilitating on-site installations while ensuring ergonomic efficiency.
“That battery-powered impact gun makes it an ergonomically efficient, portable hose installation tool,” says Mike Raczuk, general manager of KOUL Tools. “That means hoses from 2 to 3 inches can be assembled quickly with no manual, repetitive force required.”
The EZ-ON Hose Press 223 is constructed of aluminum and stainless steel parts, making it durable but also lightweight to transport to and from job sites and comes with a custom case. The easy-to-use clamping systems for the hose and the fitting provide fast, hassle-free installations.
“We designed a new barb fitting holder with adjustable rods that secure 2- to 3-inch fittings from the back opening,” says Raczuk. “The exterior shapes and sizes of fittings vary, and at times can be odd. The expanding rod system is a ‘one-for-all’ solution.”
Koul Tools designed the 223 model after receiving inquiries from professionals working not only in the sewer and water industry, but in shipyards, and the oil and gas industry, amongst others.
“It was astonishing to hear their stories of them assembling hoses by pounding the fittings in with sledgehammers,” says Dick Raczuk, Koul Tools owner. “This is not only time-consuming, but it could result in an injury. The 223 solves this issue, and they are thrilled.”
According to Mike Raczuk, the product’s development was a direct result of those inquiries.
“We weren’t planning on making this product, but companies that were fans of our models for smaller hose sizes pleaded for this. We took our design experience from our previous models to engineer a product that can handle the demands of industrial-size hoses.” he says. “Using the EZ-ON Hose Press 223 cut their hose assembly time in half.”
