Association News

Denver District Loses Robert W. Hite

Bob Hite, district manager of the Denver Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation District, passed away on Dec. 4. He was scheduled to retire at the end of 2007.

According to Metro District Chairman of the Board Tony Ferraro, the district experienced unprecedented fiscal stability under Hite’s direction and became widely recognized as a national leader in wastewater treatment.

Hite served on the Metro District’s Board of Directors as a representative of Denver for 17 years before being appointed district manager in 1988. He also was a former National Association of Clean Water Agencies president and chaired the National Biosolids Partnership.

New Chair for Biosolids Partnership

Richard Lanyon is the new chair of the National Biosolids Partnership. Lanyon was appointed general superintendent of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago in 2006 and is a 44-year employee of the district.

Richmond Utilities District Wins Competition

The Richmond Utilities District won the Maine Rural Water Association’s 20th water taste test in December in Freeport. The North Berwick Water District won for best chlorinated water; Richmond won in the au naturel category. Richmond also took best of show and will represent Maine in a national taste test in April.

Conference Integrates Stormwater Management

Sponsored by the Urban Water Management, the Integrated Water Quality Conference and Exhibition is March 31 to April 2 at the Louisville (Ky.) Marriott. The event focuses on integration of Stormwater BMPs, Phase II regulations, green infrastructure, and funding for municipal water management programs. EPA Announces 2007 Water Efficiency Leader Award Winners

The U.S. EPAgency announced the winners of the second annual Water Efficiency Leader Awards, recognizing organizations and individuals for leadership and innovation in water-efficient products and practices. The winners are:
