Once each year, NASSCO members come together from every corner of the United States to advocate for the entire underground infrastructure industry by participating in NASSCO’s Washington, D.C. Fly-In. If you are a NASSCO member in good standing, we hope you will join us for this year’s event scheduled for May 3, 2025.

NASSCO will arm you with everything you need to connect with your elected officials, including scripts, talking points and other materials such as a brief overview video that explains the necessity of funding wastewater assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation. NASSCO’s key recommendations to Congress include:

  • Increase funding for water and sewer pipeline infrastructure
  • Maintain regulatory compliance enforcement
  • Strengthen asset management requirements and funding

NASSCO has visited Capitol Hill for the past several years, and while the key recommendations have remained the same, the specifics of each have typically changed. With the new Trump administration, the key recommendations are currently being reviewed and updated.

Many individuals and companies have questions about what the new administration will mean for the water sector. What will be President Trump’s regulatory agenda? How will he prioritize federal funding for infrastructure and project oversight? How will his economic and social policies impact the water sector? What will Congress do? And how can NASSCO and the water sector have an impact?

While past performance is not a predictor of future results, the business of the water sector in the first Trump administration fared relatively well. Although President Trump did not pass a major infrastructure package, he maintained federal funding for water infrastructure at levels relatively close to President Obama’s. NASSCO will closely watch how the administration supports funding, and communications and official “asks” for the upcoming Fly-In will be crafted accordingly.

NASSCO’s 2025 Washington D.C. Fly-In will kick off with a dinner on May 2 for all attending members during which time we will review schedules and provide tips for conducting successful meetings (each of which lasts roughly 20 to 30 minutes). May 3 includes a carefully orchestrated schedule with NASSCO members being grouped by geographic location and areas of expertise to provide the most comprehensive and succinct information possible to elected officials and their staff.

Over the years, it has become very clear that your elected officials really want to hear from you. The time we have spent on Capitol Hill has been extremely fruitful, with some meetings resulting in requests to visit project worksites to better understand trenchless technology. May 4 will be available for any additional meetings we may be able to schedule.

If you cannot join us in Washington, D.C., you can still stay involved. NASSCO periodically schedules online calls with our members and their elected officials throughout the year. You can also raise your voice to support specific funding and other initiatives via the NASSCO Sewer System Heroes online campaign at nassco.org/advocacy.
