The process of relining sewer mains is well known. However, there is also a growing need to reline the smaller-diameter lateral pipes that run from buildings to the mainlines. These smaller pipes can crack, separate and break, and are responsible for a big chunk of the inflow and infiltration of groundwater processed by municipal processing plants.
That’s where tools like the T80 Small Pipe Lateral Reinstatement Cutter from TRY TEK Machine Works comes into play. Designed for 3-, 4- and 6-inch pipe, it is a perfect tool to reline the smaller diameter lateral pipes that run from buildings to mainlines.
“When the unexpected happens, TRY TEK has the most robust solution for removing a failed liner in a small pipe,” says Dale McPherson, operations manager for TRY TEK Machine Works.
The T80 is designed to navigate through 90-degree bends in indoor or outdoor, vertical or horizontal applications. Its cutting head includes a color camera with lens wiper and air blow off for clear vision. Quick and simple to set up, its water hydraulic cutting head provides 400% more torque than a typical air router. To use, the technician simply has to access the pipe system through a cleanout port or rooftop vent. Compact in size, its hydraulically actuated cutting head and clamping mechanism is designed to fit through a 24-inch opening. A forward-facing cutting head is a new upgrade to the unit.
According to McPherson, water hydraulic cutting gives big power in a smaller package. Not only do the tool’s water hydraulics eliminate potential environmental hazards, set up and operation of the T80 is quick and simple. It includes 100 feet of working cable. The forward-facing cutting head makes the unit ideal for piercing through a mainline from a lateral or reopening a supply line from a hydrant.
“With the new ovoid grit bit utilizing a replaceable tool steel drill tip for easy piercing and the peripheral carbide grit, you’ll be turning a failure into a recovery in short order,” says McPherson.
TRY TEK offers cutters used for reinstating laterals in relined pipe up to 18 inches in diameter. The company also manufactures CIPP liner inversion units for liners from 4 to 18 inches. Their air routers are not only used on TRY TEK equipment, but can also be used with competing equipment.
